Bad Relationships - Are you stuck in a bad relationship?

Ginger bread man
The first thing to ask is if you are in a bad relationship? A bad relationship will have as it foundation sin. For example is your relation is based on adultery or an affair? It is written, “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.” (Hebrews 13:4) Does your relationship hold up to God’s command of a marriage to be held in honor among all and the marriage bed being undefiled?

Another sign that a relationship is malformed is that the couple is having sex outside of marriage. As we see in Hebrews 13:4 God is going to judge those who do such things. That is a terrifying thought! There is no fear of God since they think there are no consequences for their actions. When we are saved, we are saved from God! That may sound counter intuitive, but it is true because when we are saved we are saved from God’s wrath for our sin. From the marriage perspective, being careless with the relationships we enter into has consequences in this life and the eternal life that is to come. So the fear of the Lord is the first and necessary step to resolving relationship issues. For without the fear of the Lord you will continue doing what you have already been doing. We live in a world that has set itself up as an enemy of God by reflecting all the vile and evil selfishness from the mind of the devil. Most christians don’t see how influenced their attitudes have become from the very pit of hell. Think of christians who have no compunction against having sex outside of marriage. They are chasing selfish desires.

The fear of the Lord is only the first step. The second step is God’s step in that He has provided the grace for you to move towards the center of His will for you. This grace includes the mercy, forgiveness and power to correct the situation through repentance and helping you to build a proper relationship or restore a marriage that has been broken. When you combine the fear of the Lord with God’s grace, miracles can happen!

Repentance is a choice of your freewill. No one can force you to repent, not even God. To repent is to turn around and go the way you should have gone in the first place. If you are in a sinful relationship, repent and get out of it. If your marriage is broken, repent from the sins YOU have committed and turn to God for help. Turning to God means to become a student of God’s ways and practice them. It is so common that christians claim to follow God, but there is little effort put into actually doing what God says. If you want to fix your relationship problems, then put God at the very top of your priority list by itself. God is trustworthy, but the devil whispers in your ear that God has abandoned you and thus causes a conflict within your soul. So who are you going to trust? Today is the day you can make that decision to trust God and do things God’s way.
