What was, What Is, What is to Come - Do we really believe what God has said?

The creation of man can be a difficult subject to explore given the fact that no one today was alive at the time of Adam’s creation, so who can say what it was like for them in the garden of Eden? The lack of a living human eyewitness gives rise to the opportunity to insert assumptions because there is no way to be held accountable among men. With this perceived lack of accountability, it is easy to fall into the pattern of thinking that says that the way things are today is how things were in the past and will always be in the future. Currently men and women are born, grow up, have children, and then die. It has been this way for all those who are alive and even in the written records of the past. So we have an observed cycle of a new generation replacing the older generation and if that is all you looked at, then it would be a compelling thing to assume that it has always been this way. The crux of what I am pointing out is that the state of our world today is not the pattern for how it was in the past before the fall into sin or will be in the future.

The problem with this thinking is that if you walk according to those thoughts, life becomes meaningless and it is like saying that there is no God. More specifically it is saying Jesus was a liar when he said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6) For those who don’t believe in God, it is easy to make this connection for out of their ignorance they wrongly assume there can’t be a God. Yet we see this thinking running rampant in the minds of many christians who by their own testimonies say there is a God. So for the christian it is subtle under current of disbelief in what God has said.

So how would a christian who says there is a God, be shown to believe as the world believes that the creation continues on as it always has and always will? First lets turn this around and look at the symptoms as a gage of what is going on inside. Man has been infected with pride which results in sin and as long as we walk in our mortal bodies, sin will be at our doorstep waiting for us to open the door. Within the christian community we see a lot of division and hypocrisy and such things exist because we think that it is OK to do such things because there is no day of judgement where we will have to give an account for what we did and this is a fundamental lack of fear of God. In essence, we “forget” that we will be called to account for “everything” we say and do. The key here is that we “forget” the facts on the ground and thus open the door to accept lies. Therefore if we forget God’s testimony about how things were in the beginning, then fables and myths become our only alternative and thus the rise of the theory of evolution that we came out of random chance. Some christians even try to combine the bible with evolution as a compromise because they can’t explain what they see because they don’t want to admit that they don’t know.

So from the christian perspective to believe that we are stuck in a perpetual cycle that one generation will “always” replace the next generation, is a horrendous thing to think. Such thinking will cause you to drop your guard and be careless with the things of God. A shroud of doubt will hang over you that what you do doesn’t make that much of difference since there is no end to life under the curse. Therefore an attitude of “live and let live” or “anything goes” will infect your thinking and ultimately your actions. If you don’t believe God in His testimony of what He has done in the past, you won’t believe what God has planned for the future!

There are many compounding consequences for walking down this path. For example, the scientific community uses carbon dating to judge the age of objects. Carbon dating is dependent on the validity of the assumption that the decay of carbon-14 has always existed. According to the scriptures sin and consequently death entered into the world through Adam. Before there was sin, it is implicit to say that man was designed to live forever because God did not design us with the intension to die. Decay is the precursor to death and you can see this everywhere you look in this world in that plants rot, iron rusts, and carbon-14 decays. So to say carbon dating is a reliable gage of the age of things totally ignores God! When you say something is 100,000 years old, you have to call God a liar. The best you can say is you don’t know. So if you accept the world’s premiss that everything will continue on as it always has, what else will you play fast and loose with concerning the things of God? This is a slippery slope that leads to confusion.

So what it really comes down to is who’s testimony will you believe? The key here is actions and deeds trump words, so in essence, you “do” what you believe. So one can say they follow God, but by their deeds expose what they truly believe. If you lack knowledge and understanding of these things, the best thing you can do is to remain neutral and investigate what God has said and why things fit together as they presently do because it is better to act wisely than go with the flow out of ignorance. This is a freewill choice you make.
